MiDUD (Part 2)
UPDATE: We Testified Before the Michigan Legislature Yesterday
Yesterday, February 24th, 2026, we hosted a presentation to the House Oversight Subcommittee on Public Health and Food Security Committee about the MiSUD Addiction Treatment Locator. I hesitate linking to it because it's a trash website, but here it is: https://www.michigan.gov/opioids/find-help/misud-locator
At this oversight committee meeting yesterday, I testified alongside Colleen Lane, MD, and Ashley Shukait, MPH. Their clinical and frontline expertise grounded everything we presented about the Mi SUD Addiction Treatment Locator in the lived reality of people seeking and providing addiction care in Michigan.
People are trying to find life-saving services.
If you announce a way for people to find life saving services, people are going to use it... so it better work.
If you're new here, the short version: the State of Michigan built an addiction treatment locator, launched it despite knowing it was broken, and continues to actively promote it. All of that is probably bad enough…but we haven't reached the full depths of this incompetent response to a crisis. In the hearing, we also disclosed a substantial privacy issue that makes this whole debacle a true clusterfuck.
Will there be accountability? Will there be a functional way for people to find evidence-based addiction treatment in Michigan? Stay tuned to find out!
