# [Opioid settlement money unspent, misused](https://investigativepost.org/2026/03/26/opioid-settlement-money-unspent-misused/)

Thrilled to see superstar research assistant Tony Peterson getting a quote in this important piece about more mispending of opioid settlement money in Western New York.

> “I can say with confidence that this is a kind of vibes-based spending. It feels good to use this money for our emergency services,” Peterson told Investigative Post. But that’s not what it’s meant for, she said. “This \[money\] is to address the hurt that our communities have experienced in connection to the opioid epidemic.”
